Penmac to Provide Substitutes for Bergman School District

Penmac to Provide Substitutes for Bergman School District

Bergman Public Schools has named Penmac Education Staffing to provide substitute teachers and staff beginning in the fall 2026 semester. Penmac helps districts recruit, screen, and train substitute teachers and paraprofessionals, and currently serves over thirty school districts.

Penmac will employ all substitutes working in Bergman Public Schools. Those who worked as substitutes last year will transition to Penmac’s payroll and will receive details about the transition process. The district still sets substitute pay rates.

For substitutes, the transition will primarily mean they have more resources available—Penmac offers weekly pay, affordable health insurance options with no waiting period, retirement benefits after one year of employment, ongoing coaching by veteran educators, and professional development opportunities. Substitutes can set preferences for the subject matter, grade level, and buildings they want to work in; they can also choose when they want to work, a huge advantage for those who need a truly flexible work schedule.

For the district, Penmac will provide HR services for substitutes like recruitment, screening, training, and coaching. Company-wide, Penmac averages a fill rate of nearly 90% for teacher absences. Penmac serves a variety of school districts with enrollments ranging from 300–24,500 students.

Leaders from both organizations are looking forward to a strong partnership. “We are honored to join Bergman in their mission to provide high-quality education that creates life-long learners. Penmac Education Staffing hopes to help achieve that by ensuring no child is left without a day of instruction when a teacher can’t be there,” said Penmac Education Staffing Executive Director David Steward.

Bergman School District Superintendent Sarah Alexander said, “Bergman School District is excited to partner with Penmac as our substitute provider for 2026-27. We think that the well-trained, hard-working substitutes that they will be able to provide, can fill in and keep learning moving forward when teachers have to be gone.”

Those interested in working as a substitute for Bergman Public Schools can learn more and apply online at www.penmac.com/teach or contact the Penmac team by calling or sending a text message to 870-372-6956. Substitute teachers are required to meet Arkansas requirements, including required background checks.
