Introducing Penny, Our New Virtual Recruiting Assistant

Applying with Penmac just got cooler!

Looking for a job can feel confusing and stressful. Sometimes it’s hard to know if your application is being seen or if you’re moving in the right direction. That’s why Penmac Staffing is excited to share a new, innovative tool—a helpful AI recruiting assistant named Penny. Penny uses smart technology to make the hiring process easier, faster, and more enjoyable for you.

She’ll break the ice by reaching out to you shortly after you apply for a job with Penmac. When you’re available for a phone call, Penny will dive into your work experience with you, and ask about your work availability, desired pay, and other important pre-screening information. She’ll pass along these details to our recruiters, helping you stand out in a sea of candidates.

Penny is just starting to help some of our offices with the recruiting process, so for now, she won’t be contacting every Penmac applicant, but her coverage will expand soon!

Penny Penguin is named after Penmac’s founder, Patti Penny. Just like Patti, she loves connecting people with cool jobs!

How A.I. Makes Recruiting Better

Using AI in hiring has been proven to make a big difference. Companies that use AI often fill jobs faster and find better matches.

In fact, AI can cut hiring time by up to 25%, and some studies show it can shorten the early screening process by as much as 67%.

Plus, 68% of recruiters say AI helps reduce unintentional bias, which means the process becomes fairer for everyone.

What Penny Can Do

Faster Hiring:
Penny takes care of repetitive tasks and keeps things moving. This helps you get updates sooner and move through the process more smoothly.

Better Communication:
Penny can send texts, emails, and even make phone calls to help with early screenings. This means you won’t be left waiting and wondering after you apply with Penmac.

Humans and AI Working Together:
While Penny handles the routine parts of the process, our real-life recruiters are still here to give personal support, answer questions, and help you every step of the way. Of course, Penny will not make any hiring decisions—her only job is to help our recruiters hire faster by gathering information.

A Friendlier Experience:
Penny makes applying for a job less stressful and more supportive. During busy times, it helps us respond faster so you get matched with the right job as quickly as possible.

Curious about how Penny operates? Here’s a quick overview.

  • You submit your application to a job that Penmac has posted.
  • During weekday business hours, Penny will try to reach you on the phone. If you can’t answer, she’ll also send a text message and email so you can schedule a call with her. If you’re applying for jobs outside of regular business hours, Penny will start with a text message or email to see if you’re available for a call.
  • During the 5–10-minute call, Penny will ask a few questions to gather more information about your work experience, education, work availability, goals, and more.
  • Penny will pass these details on to one of our human recruiters who will take over from there.

A Few Tips for Successful Calls with Penny:

  • Speak clearly and professionally. Find a quiet place to talk, and don’t eat or drink during the call. Make sure your device is charged and avoid using speakerphone.
  • Penny will repeat a question if you say “Repeat.”
  • If you’d like Penny to ask a question again a different way for clarity, say “Reframe or Reword.”
  • If you say “More Time,” Penny will pause and wait before checking again to see if you’re ready to proceed.
  • Penny can’t reschedule a call during a phone call, but rescheduling is supported via email or text messages.
