John Horton's Story

A New Opportunity Found Quickly After Lay-off

After being self-employed for over 20 years, John Horton applied with Penmac in September 2011 and was placed in an industrial manufacturing position within the month. In mid-January 2012, Horton was laid off, along with dozens of other workers.

Shortly after, Horton returned to Penmac looking for another position. “It’s reassuring to know that I can always come back to Penmac to find a job. I don’t have to worry about being laid-off,” Horton said.

Horton was quickly placed in another position and will be out of work for less than a month. Glanbia Nutritionals is where Horton will work as a manufacturing technician. Glanbia Nutritionals manufactures and sells nutritional and functional ingredient solutions to the food, beverage, supplement, cosmetic and pet food industries.

North Springfield Branch Manager, Steven Sparkman, said of Horton, “for as long as I’ve known John, he has been polite and courteous to everyone at Penmac and on the assignments we’ve sent him to. We are happy that John recently accepted a job with Glanbia because they are a great employer. We feel confident that John will represent Penmac very well and do an outstanding job for our client.”

Horton said he is appreciative of Penmac aiding him in compiling a resume, interviewing and securing employment. Since Horton is planning to work evening shifts at Glanbia Nutritionals, he is thankful that he will be able to continue one of his passions in his free time—operating booths at antique and craft markets.
