A survey of Penmac Staffing business clients and contacts revealed some insights into the effects of the pandemic on employers, and their top concerns. The survey was conducted from April 20 through May 1, 2020.
One-third of employers reported reductions in the size of their workforce due to the pandemic. 60% reported no change, and 7% increased their staffing due to increased demands on essential employers.
Nearly 60% of employers anticipated returning to pre-pandemic staffing levels immediately when state and local policies allow. Although unemployment rates are very high, employers must be ready to compete for talent.
In fact, just over 20% of employers are concerned about the increased competition for talent when hiring needs all hit the market at once. Companies that want to successfully recruit during this time must set themselves apart with competitive wages and other benefits such as attendance bonuses.
Revealing another top concern, over 20% of employers believed that many people will still be concerned about the virus, and hesitant to leave their homes. Employers who are recruiting must communicate clearly about their safety procedures and demonstrate that they are committed to the health and safety of their workforce. Companies that take healthy practices seriously will have a recruiting advantage.
Penmac Staffing is here to help both employers and job seekers navigate this new labor market and face these new challenges. For employers who’d like to read the full overview of the survey results, please contact the manager of your local Penmac Staffing location, or email [email protected].
