Penmac Staffing Services, Inc. has partnered with Houston, MO R-1 Schools to provide substitute teachers for the spring 2017 semester.
Penmac started the Education Staffing division in 2013, and has since grown to serve ten districts in southwest Missouri. Penmac Education Staffing helps districts recruit, screen, train, and schedule substitute teachers and paraprofessionals. Substitutes become employees of Penmac, which eases the burden on schools by ensuring district compliance with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and allows retired teachers to substitute more frequently.
Education Staffing enlisted Dr. Pam Hedgpeth, former superintendent of Republic Schools and coordinator for Missouri’s Education Leadership Development Program (MOLEAD), to design and develop the program. Mark Overstreet, former Houston, MO High School head football coach and teacher, also assists in overseeing the program. In addition, each district has a designated Education Coordinator that manages scheduling and provides ongoing support for substitutes. Penmac Education Staffing currently has fill rates over 98%.
Those who are interested in subbing for Houston Schools, including substitutes who have worked with the district in the past, should apply through the Penmac Staffing office in West Plains. Penmac will announce dates where staff will be onsite at Houston, MO schools taking applications. A Missouri Substitute Certificate is required. Full-time substitute teachers are eligible for Penmac’s health and retirement benefits. Penmac uses Aesop, an online substitute management program that allows substitute teachers to specify availability, to set assignment preferences, and communicate with classroom teachers.
Penmac Staffing CEO Tim Massey said, “We are excited to be able to work with leaders in the education field, and have a direct impact on students and their success in the classroom. This program is a natural extension of our decades of staffing experience and our belief in the power of education to strengthen our workforce.” School administrators interested in this program should contact Pam Hedgpeth at 417-234-2903.
